I would like to move on to OTRS 4 from my current otrs 3.3.9. However, I wasn't successful with a migration viewtopic.php?f=62&t=28011.
Would it be advisable to do a fresh install of otrs 4 and then move the database to the new installation? What would be the best way to go about it so that I can upgrade to OTRS 4 and keep my existing tickets, processes and so on?

Re: Migration or new install
Hi,
i would prefer the migration. Ohterwise you'll loose old tickets.
You should switch to InnoDB first, and then check if database migration works fine.

I would like to perform a migration as well so as to retain old tickets as I see no other way of transferring them to freshly installed OTRS 4wurzel wrote:Hi,

About switching to InnoDB: The manual mentions:
I'm however using mysql version 5.1.73 and default storage engine is MyISAM. Do I still have to switch to InnoDB first before migration? I can't really follow.new tables created in the MySQL UPGRADING process will be created with the default table storage engine set in your MySQL server. In MySQL 5.5 the new default type is InnoDB. If existing tables, e.g. "users", have the table storage engine e.g. MyISAM, then an error will be displayed when creating the foreign key constraints.

Re: Migration or new install
Hi,
The migration would be the best way. Transferring old tickets to a new OTRS instance is not really possible.
I think you have to switch to InnoDB. But I am not sure (I always switch to InnoDB on <5.5 versions)

- don't forget the /opt/otrs/var/log/TicketCounter.log
in this way you don't loose old tickets
Having said that: I never had any problems by upgrading from older versions.
