Replacing a CI in CMDB

Post by amedina »

Hi all,
I know this is more a question about best practice than a question about OTRS, but I recently install the ITSM module and start feeding the CMDB with out network device. Right now I'm updating our naming convention too, but I want to know how to manage a CI replace? for example: If I have a cisco switch named: sw-ar-013-b, and this switch is damage and needs to be replace, should I have to create a new CI with the same name or edit the CI register of the damage switch and modify the serial, model, etc.?

Thanks and best regards,
Amedina

I think the best would be to set that ci as

Deployment state: Retired
Incident state: Incident

Then you create a new ci with the new switch.
