OTRS 4 beta

Post by brann »

Hi there,

up to now, there were announcements of OTRS 3.4. Now, it's OTRS 4 beta. Who already tested it and what's your first impression? Which features fail or are not completed and which are really nice?
I'm curious about your feedback. Thanks a lot for it in advance :)

regs,
Anna

Official announcement from today:
Service management software provider OTRS Group is releasing a beta version of its new software release, OTRS 4. The beta version comes with a new numeric versioning scheme, and is released with a new strategic plan for OTRS going forward, with a focus on features and professional services.

Hey there,

our first impression was positive. We highly enjoyed the new look and feel.

As for the installation we still experienced some difficulties which are to be expected in a beta - I guess. We got stuck on updating the database and converting our .dtl files.

Which new feel do you mind in detail? I didn't percept any big change while using it. The new look is also not so much different than the look of OTRS 3.3.8, but it has been definitely changed. There are some changes in the background, which I like (or at least the conception behind it).
It's my personal opinion.

No, the changes were not huge - but an improvement. If you want to pin us down to name it, it were the clearer edges and the possibility to drag+drop the menu bar (though one is still unable to swap widgets from the "left" to the "right" column on the dashboard).

Also I'm looking forward for the option to spawn tickets from the process management, which I couldn't test yet, as we couldn't migrate our data.

Same here. Guess you got to add a path but I'm not yet sure which.

No I didn't - good point. Used my standard setup so I missed this one. Will try immediately and get back as soon as I fixed the "Permission denied because search permissions are missing on a component of the path" 403.

Just a feedback as I tried to upgrade again. The migration script "DBUpdate-to-4.pl" aborts on Step 4/12 with the message:

Code: Select all

Step 4 of 12: Migrate ProcessManagement EntityIDs... [Thu Sep 18 15:12:56 2014] DBUpdate-to-4.pl: Error: No new EntityID was created for TransitionAction: TA1 at ./scripts/DBUpdate-to-4.pl line 549.
EDIT:

This is a problem we have with our DB, which was not consistent. We had deleted activites and transitionactions on the canvas...
