Linux vs Windows
Hi,
I'm about to install OTRS in my computer,
I just want to know which plateform is more convenient for OTRS 3.2.1?
thank you for helping me to choose.

Re: Linux vs Windows
We've been running otrs on windows without problems for the past 2 years.
But one MAJOR thing i would have to complain about it the lack of intelligent upgrades on windows.... as opposed to linux.
Linux, just download the upgrade package, follow the steps and tadam !!
on windows it's a bit more complicated... first make a full copy of your database and settings and specific file (like a company logo)... then you have to uninstall everything (and when i say everything... it's everything.. database, webserver etc...), and then install everything from skratch again with the new version. then reload your DB and settings and files and cross you fingers you didnt screw up This is one main reason why i dont always make upgrades.
I also found that there seems to be a lot less support from the community on windows (but that's true about most open source software).

Re: Linux vs Windows
I've seen it running both on Windows and on Linux and even though it runs really well on Windows (despite what the other replies will have you believe) you'll have a hard time trying to update - if you don't really know what you're doing you can screw things up big-time. And even if you know your way around, it's much more time efficient and headache-free to do the upgrades on Linux.s_loubna wrote:Hi,

Re: Linux vs Windows
Having used both, I think the latest Windows version is on par with the Linux distributions of the past. I first tried to deploy the Windows version a few years back and ran into random memory errors. I was unable to pinpoint the problem, but it may have been Apache related. That prompted me to go the Linux route and never really had a problem since.
That being said, I recently setup 3.1.2 on a Win7 machine and have not had any issues after a week or so of active use. I would agree with the comments above that upgrading on Linux appears to be much easier than Windows.

Re: Linux vs Windows
Anytime there is an installation question, I've always succeeded by installing Windows before anything else and then installing the questionable program next. Leave the esay programs to the end. Everyone I've talked to says Windows 7 is the answer.
Here I go.

Re: Linux vs Windows
I tried setting up v3.1.2 on a windows machine (win7) and it seems to be working fine. Having said that, I find that the upgrades for the Linux version is much more intelligent and better. Not surprising, if you ask me
