Hi forum,
We would like to populate our CMDB with a large amount of linux server CIs. Which way of server discovery could be recommended?
Has anyone experience with integration to Nagios for importing and linking Nagios alerts to the actual CI and changing the CI state?
I would like to import the CIs from Nagios, if possible, in order to ensure alignment between the Nagios hosts and the OTRS CIs.
Thanks in advance,
/Eivind

I using such environment
- install import/export module
- define an import job
- exporting hosts from nagios into csv format according to your import definition
- run importExport from shell (or cron)

Re: CMDB import - mostly linux server CIs
Just some additional notes, since everything Wolfgang wrote is right.
Please make sure, you understand the meaning of a CMDB. In ITIL terms: In your CMDB you define the baseline (!) of your Configuration Management. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Configuration_management
Means, apart from populating your CMDB one time with existing Nagios data in order to start it up, the CMDB should be the leading system. Going this way, your processes will be well defined if you plan to use Change Management later on.
In any case, you can use Nagios to ensure alignment between the CMDB baseline (e.g. SystemMonitoring opm) and real world.
We use our CMDB to create a complete and running Nagios configuration.
Some basic rules: No change = no config item. No config item = no monitoring.
You can easily control your IT staff and your client(s) using tools like arpwatch, always based on the output of the CMDB.
Best wishes,
Lorenzo

Hi Lorenzo and Wolfgang
Many thanks for your replys..
I got the import working and the nagiosmails are being caught by otrs. I need a little more tweaking to make it work great but I'm getting there
