HOWTO: Automate the deletion of Attachments

So you have a large number of attachments on the filesystem that you want to delete, either because you want to free up disk space or as part of an archiving strategy. This howto details how to automate this.

I searched the internet and found nothing that matched my needs, so developed this process to solve the problem.
