The web portal became very slow and at times users were being logged out forcefully.
I have no clue what should be checked in such cases. Any pointers?

There is nothing suspicious in the log files except 1 line : Session ID xxxx is invalid.

checks on Linux the top waiting as is. if you are over 50, check the Apache error logs, maybe someone is updating the dashboard page constantly ...
