Exchange 2010 IMAP Issue

Hi, I've been using Exchange 2003 integration with OTRS via IMAP for sometime without any issues, I'm now in the process of moving my mail environment to Exchange 2010 and have hit some issues with IMAP.

I moved the OTRS mailbox to the new Exchange 2010 server, changed Core::Send mail to reference the new mail server and changed the PostMaster Mail Account to also reflect this, automatic Feth Mail retrieval now no longer works and if I try and do a manual Fetch Mail my web page just goes blank and I have to close the IE window, when I crash out and reopen OTRS 2 new tickets are logged for the same call but no email notifications are sent.

I've tried moving the mailbox back to Exchange 2003 and setting everything back to how it was but the issue still remains.

I also tried configuring POP3 as per this post but that didn't work either viewtopic.php?f=62&t=5266

Can anybody possibly assist?

Please provide any specific logs (otrs.log?) regarding this.

IMAP doesn't handle sending email.

Your provider might balk at you grabbing IMAP every minute. A happy medium might be 3-5 minutes, or consider procmail (see the wiki).

I manage the Exchange 2010 server internally myself. Is IMAP not compatible with 2010 as I'd rather continue to use that method if at all possible?

OK, but you're ignoring "auth failed."

Having done some further troubleshooting on the OTRS server I recall setting the item below within Crontab.txt to have the email account checked every minute.

*/1 * * * * c:/Progra~2/OTRS/StrawberryPerl/perl/bin/perl.exe c:/Progra~2/OTRS/OTRS//bin/otrs.PostMasterMailbox.pl

When I check the otrs.log file I now only see the errors below.

This is the process I carred out:
- Moved the itservicedesk mailbox from Exchange 2003 to Exchnage 2010.
- Amended the Core::SendMail details to reflect the new mail server name.
- Updated the PostMaster Mail Account details with the new server name.
- Made sure my OTRS server was allowed IMAP relay on the new mail server.
- Tested I could log into IMAP on my OTRS server via telnet - all ok.
- If I have emails in my ITServiceDesk mailbox they don't automatically get logged.
- If I try a manual Fetch Mail it only relogs the oldest email and my OTRS screen goes blank with a white background.
- If my ITServiceDesk mailbox is empty and I try a manual Fetch Mail it tells me it has succesfully been checked.

Any help is much appreciated.

I was only using IMAP as that was what worked in the first place, I don't mind not keeping the emails.
You mentioned procmail earlier but I couldn't see any notes on how to set it up?

There are no easy answers for procmail on windows. Your errors on fetch already running are because the process id is still stored in the database (?) I think.

What are my options moving forward? Possibly POP3 or am I likely to have the same problem? What route does everybody else usually take in a windows based environment using Exchange 2010? I'm happy to look at the Linux options.

I'm not sure that there's a problem except that you're asking too frequently and it's not being allowed to finish the previous request.
You may want to run
path/to/otrs/bin/otrs.PostMasterMailbox.pl -f
once to clean up PID.

Fortunately, it cleaned itself up one hour old, so ... what's the problem now?

I ran otrs.PostMasterMailbox.pl -f and amended crontab.txt to check for mail every 3 minutes instead of 1.

If I email the ITServiceDesk mailbox nothing automatically gets logged, if I try a manual "Fetch Mail" the internet explorer window goes blank with a white background so I have to close it down, the call is then logged twice but no notification emails are sent to the agents or customer?

I can't identify where the root of the problem is?

The thing is, your web logs or otrs.log at the time of fetch should show *something*... nothing you've shown so far is indicative of your problem.

You had auth failure. That's credentials.
You had PID in use. That's just a warning that it won't do it again while the process is "running".

Nothing else *here* says anything to do with your situation. If it's white, *usually* that means apache is not liking something (a config setting? a missing semicolon? Who knows?). So look for apache logs.(I don't know, http.log or access.log or error.log?)

Have you tried connecting with a regular IMAP client like Thunderbird?

Have you checked the following?

• Firewall rules on the server allow IMAP traffic to the subnet your using
• IMAP is turned on for the account in question
• You have checked the encryption and security handshake settings for IMAP in Exchange

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I've checked each of those options, I can telnet on port 143 to the Exchange 2010 server and send a test message, both the HelpDesk server and the Mail server are on the same subnet with no software/hardware firewalls in between, IMAP is set with Basic Authentication.

I've just tried creating a new mailbox on my old Exchange 2003 server and "Fetch Mail" from that but the issue still remains.

My problem is the same as described in this post viewtopic.php?f=62&t=12411 whereby when attempting to create a test ticket and do an "empty reply" email the pop up window containing the email will appear, but when sending all that you get after clicking submit is a blank page. No error, or status or anything. Just stays stuck on a blank white page.

My last resort is to build a new server with the latest release and start from scratch.

My confusion is this: Your title reflects IMAP. IMAP doesn't send messages. SMTP does.

You need to troubleshoot your ability to send email messages. This would be SMTP settings, SMTP security (SSL?), SMTP credentials. Nothing IMAP.

Thank for the last comment @crythias, it triggered a thought about the SMTP relay on my new Exchange 2010 server, I amended the persmissions on the Authentication tab and it's now working as normal.
