I would like to install OTRS 5 on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 server and connect OTRS to an Oracle database. This server currently has OTRS 4 and a MySQL database. This is more of a Linux admin question: what is the best way to perform this upgrade?
Maintaining the current data is not an issue - I'm looking for the best option to upgrade OTRS
These are my options as I see them:
1) Reinstall RHEL6 and start with a bare metal OS
Pros: Good linux admin practice installing patches and packages before installing OTRS 5
Cons: Have to install patches and packages before installing OTRS 5
2) Uninstall OTRS 4 and MySQL and install OTRS 5 w/ Oracle connector
Pros: Won’t have to reinstall *all* the packages required by OTRS
Cons: Making sure I clean out all the OTRS 4 and MySQL junk prior to OTRS 5 installation (may not be that bad since it’s not Windows… Deleting OTRS and MySQL directories should do it)
3) Install OTRS 5 on top of OTRS 4
Pros: A lot less work
Cons: Could end up with a Frankenstein’s Monster installation – part OTRS 4 and part OTRS 5
I’m leaning toward option 2), but I'd like to hear from anyone that has done this upgrade - the method used and the problems encounted.
Thanks in advance for all replies.

Hi,
I would choose step1
this here
and you have a full fallback plan if you upgrade fails. Just switch on the old machine.

Does OTRS 5 support Oracle 12c?
